TIGER WRESTLING TEAM FINISHES 3RD AT REGION DUAL TOURNAMENT

The Forest Blade:

The Swainsboro High School wrestling team traveled to Dublin on Friday, January 7th for the Region Dual Tournament.  Representing the Tiger wrestling team was: Thomas Waters, Jeffrey Downs, Alexander Carswell, Timothy Jones, Lashon Sherrod, Steven Parkey, Chris Coleman, Brandon Coleman, Dalvin Lott, Ronald Lucas, Jaleel Johnson, Steven Chrysosferidos, Donald Harrell, Deshon Habersham, Wesley Moore and Doug Williams.

Swainsboro’s first opponent was Screven County High School.  Lashon Sherrod, Chris Coleman, Brandon Coleman, Dalvin Lott and Jaleel Johnson all won by pin.  Ronald Lucas won 8-2.  This win advanced the Tigers to the semi-finals against Dublin High School.

The match up against the highly ranked Dublin Irish is what the Tigers had been waiting for.  It was a hard fought match, only for the Tigers to come up short.  Timothy Jones, Dalvin Lott and Steven Chrysosferidos all won by pin.  Jaleel Johnson won 21-6.  The loss to Dublin meant a tough road ahead.  They would have to defeat their next two opponents and hope that Dublin would win in the finals to give them a shot to go to state.

Their next opponent was a well prepared Dodge County team.  The Tigers edged out a win,  Timothy Jones, Dalvin Lott, Ronald Lucas, Steven Chrysosferidos and Wesley Moore all won by pin.  This sent the Tigers to the Consolation Finals to face Southeast Bulloch.  The Tigers had a dominating performance led by Dalvin Lott, Jaleel Johnson and Steven Chrysosferidos who all won by pin.

Fortune was in the Tigers favor when Dublin defeated East Laurens.  This meant they would have to wrestle East Laurens for a true second place and a spot in the State Dual Tournament.  Dalvin Lott won by pin, Alexander Carswell won 18-3 and Jaleel Johnson won 9-5.  Another hard fought match, unfortunately, the Tigers came up short and once again were defeated.

The Tigers finished the Region Dual Tournament in 3rd place.  Congratulations to the Tigers for their wonderful performance and hard work during this tournament and a job well done to Dalvin Lott and Jaleel Johnson who went 5-0 at this tournament.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  On Saturday January 22, the Tigers will travel to Dublin Middle School to compete in the Shamrock Scuffle.   Wrestling will begin at 9 am.  Come out and support the Tiger wrestlers.  Good luck in Dublin!
