Volleyball begins for the Lady Tigers

SHS Lady Tigers volleyball season begins

The Lady Tigers Volleyball season is underway. The Tigers have hosted the first three tournaments at the Swainsboro High School Gym. In the first meeting of the season the Lady Tigers opened up strong against AAA West Laurens Raiders on August 18. In the first game West Laurens defeated the Lady Tigers by a score of 25-17. In the second and third matches the Lady Tigers were able to dispose of the Lady Raiders by scores 25-18 and 25-19. Statistical wise for the first game Sharena Lewis had six straight serves with one ace. The second game for the Tigers Sharena Lewis had one ace and Ashley McNear had three straight serves with one ace. Leading the way for the Tigers in game three: Sharena Lewis had 5 straight serves with 3 aces, Ashley McNear had 5 serves with two aces and one kill, Christa Hall had 5 serves. Swainsboro hosted Toombs County Bulldogs on August 18 along with West Laurens. Toombs County defeated the Tigers in two games. On a high note Christa Hall did serve 7 points for the Lady Tigers. Toombs County won by scores 25-13 and 25-17.

August 25 Swainsboro hosted another squad from the AAA classification. The Burke County Bears visited the Tiger Den. Swainsboro was able to defeat the Bears in the first two contests. Swainsboro won by scores 25-22 and 25-19. Leading the way for the Tigers were team members Ashley McNear with nine serves. Sharena Lewis had eight serves with one ace. Freshman Sadie Poythress served the winning point. In game two of the Burke County vs. Swainsboro series Ashley McNear had seven serves with one ace. Chasity Passmore had six serves for the Lady Tigers in game two. Swainsboro also hosted the Bradwell Institute Tigers on August 25. Bradwell swept our Lady Tigers in the first two games by scores of 25-16 and 25-11.

August 27 the Savannah Christian Raiders traveled to Swainsboro. The Raiders won the best two of three series against Swainsboro. Swainsboro and the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs got together for another rematch after the Raiders vs. Tigers matches. Toombs County was able to upend the Lady Tigers by very close scores. The two teams battled hard until the end. Swainsboro trailed Toombs County by a final score of 25-23 in game one. Game two proved to be just as exciting as this game was decided by three points with a final of 25-22. Stat leaders in game one for Swainsboro were Sharena Lewis with seven serves. Ashley McNear had five serves. Chasity Passmore recorded four serves. Game two was once again lead by Sharena Lewis with eight serves. Jonina Brinson recorded four serves with one ace. Ashley McNear and Christa Hall both finished game two with four serves each. Tuesday, Sept. 1 the Swainsboro Lady Tigers Volleyball team traveled to Toombs County. (Scores not available by press deadline) Swainsboro will have the rest of the week off. Tuesday, Sept. 8 Swainsboro will get back in action at Aquinas High School.
