The annual Georgia North-South All-Star game to be played on December 29th in Columbus will include two familiar stars from Swainsboro. QB Malcolm Eady and OL Hunter Gay will team up once again and look to lead the South’s squad to victory.

“It is a great honor and opportunity to have been chosen to play in the North-South All-Star game,” said Gay. I feel very privileged to play with some of the best athletes in the state of Georgia.”

Gay has been an anchor on the Swainsboro offensive and defensive lines throughout his high school career. As a team leader, counted on by his teammates to guide and direct those around him, Gay knows what it takes to be successful.

“A football player must have the drive to succeed,” explained Gay. A player must be dedicated, motivated, and determined to be successful.”

Hunter plans to play college football, major in Science, and possibly pursue a teaching and coaching career. He gives credit to his parents for the impact that they have had on him as a ball player.

“They sacrificed a lot of time and dedication for me to be on the ball field,” said Gay. For this, I would like to thank them.”

Malcolm Eady is a player who has been front and center for the Tigers at QB for the past two seasons. One of the most prolific offensive weapons in Swainsboro history, his stats are undeniable. Eady has completed 188 passes in 360 attempts for 3,182 yards in two seasons. Add 33 passing touchdowns against 10 interceptions to those numbers. Rushing, Eady carried the ball 296 times for 2473 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2008 and 2009. Those numbers speak to the work load and the amazing talent that Malcolm brought to the football field every Friday night.

Eady understands the discipline and sacrifice needed to be successful. But even as a wonderfully gifted athlete, Malcolm has always been a team player who put team goals over personal statistics. The Tigers are fresh off of a very successful 10-2 season and appearance in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

“Sacrificing everything I had to succeed and leading my team to victories,” said Eady when asked to reflect on his high school career.

Eady hopes to play college football and earn a college degree. He gives credit to his uncle, Barry Young, who is also the running backs coach at SHS for have such an important impact on him as a player.

“He (Young) is very tough on me because he wants me to reach my goals. He also knows what it takes because he has been there,” said Eady referring to his uncle’s time in the Georgia Bulldog’s backfield.

Heading into what will be their final moments in shoulder pads as high school players, both players agree that representing the Swainsboro Tigers is something that they will miss.

“The thing I will miss the most about high school football is being a Swainsboro Tiger,” said Gay. There is nothing like it on a Friday night! Nothing compares to the heart-pumping, adrenaline rushing feeling of Friday nights under the lights.”

Fortunately for Hunter Gay and Malcolm Eady, they will have the opportunity to experience the rush of football on Saturdays as they weigh their options and college choices. Next Tuesday will be a step in that direction as they match up with other elite performers who share aspirations of football in the limelight, some on their way to perhaps stardom at the next level. Swainsboro congratulates these two outstanding student-athletes on this accomplishment.
