The Tigers boys basketball team completed their region schedule Saturday night with a resounding 77-45 victory against the East Laurens Falcons. Lynquez Blair led all Tiger scoring with 15 points. Devin Leach added 13 points while Maurice Strong contributed 11 points for the balanced Tigers scoring attack.
Swainsboro will host Burke County on Tuesday night and complete the regular season with a trip to Twin City to battle against the ECI Bulldogs on Saturday night. Both boys’ games this week are slated for 7:45 PM tip-off.
With those games in the books, the Tigers will travel next week to Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon for the Region Playoffs. Swainsboro hopes to play on three consecutive nights (Thursday-Saturday) and claim the top spot in region 3AA.
“Our goal now is we are going into the tournament with the best region record and #1 spot,†said head coach Leroy Jordan. “We just want to come out # 1 (in the region playoffs) so we can get a first round play-off home game (in the state play-offs).â€
The Tigers will likely face-off against East Laurens again (after the recent 32 point victory) on Thursday, February 18that 7:00 PM. A win in that first round game would propel the Tigers to a much more interesting contest against the winner of Vidalia and Jefferson County on Friday night. If Swainsboro continues to win, they will play for the region championship on Saturday, February 20that 8:30 p.m.
The Tigers will clinch a birth into the state play-offs with a win in the first round of the region play-offs. Each successive region tournament win will improve their seeding and give them an opportunity to play at the Tiger’s Den once or twice more this season.
I feel real good with our chances,†said Jordan. “Our inside play has gotten better as Ricky Adams has secured the big man spot at center that we’ve been working on. Now we have three (big men) that are ready to get the job done with Maurice Strong and Lonnie Gibbons.
