Swainsboro will roll out the 2010 edition of the baseball Tigers beginning this week at home against Cross Creek on Tuesday. They will travel to Vidalia on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Head Coach Rusty Kea looks to replace starters at short stop (Richard Livingston), centerfield (Wade Farrow), and catcher (Daniel Spears). Kea believes that although he lost some key hitters to graduation, he has a deep group to replace them with.
“I strongly believe that we have more depth in hitting this year,†said Kea. “I am expecting a better offensive performance this season with more contact and less strikeouts.â€
Justin Hodges will headline the pitching staff. Kyle Williams, Cody Farrow, Rick McNeely, Trey Logan, and Wade Ellington will also be looked up on to toe the rubber.
The Tigers will turn to a time-tested philosophy for success.
“We are going to have to be solid defensively with good pitching and know how to scratch for runs with timely hitting and aggressive base-running,†said Kea.
Swainsboro completed a 12-12 season on 2009. Region 3 AA is highly competitive region with many traditional baseball powers and quality teams.
“This is a competitive region year in and year out and I don’t foresee any changes this year,†commented Kea. “It’s hard to predict high school baseball early in the season. Toombs, Screven, Dodge, Dublin, Vidalia, and Bleckley will all be tough.â€
