The Swainsboro Tigers kept their perfect sub-region record intact (2-0) by handing Southeast Bulloch their first sub-region loss, 8-7, in a nail-biter last Friday night at Tiger Field. Red hot hitter Cody Farrow led off the game with a first pitch double to deep center field. Later that inning, teammate Cody McCumbers launched a deep drive over the right field fence and the Tigers were off and running with a 3-0 lead.
Swainsboro kept SEB at arms length for much of the game, leading 8-4 late. However, the Yellow Jackets rallied before Trey Logan came in to put out the fire to preserve the one run victory. Justin Hodges was the starting pitcher and picked up the win. Kyle Williams and Rick McNeely both knocked in two runs apiece.
The Tigers lost to region foe Vidalia on Monday evening, 17-5. Vidalia is on the other side of region 3AA (side B), but it was still bothersome to Tiger faithful as Swainsboro handled the Indians easily earlier in the season by a 14-8 score. Farrow stayed hot, hitting a homerun as did Kyle Williams. McCumbers collected three hits as well, but it was not enough as the Indians hammered out 14 hits in the game.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-7 overall on the season but an extremely important sub-region game looms for Swainsboro on Tuesday against Screven County (score unavailable at press time). The Gamecocks have not lost a sub-region game to date and are routinely one of the top teams in the area. The game will be in Screven County. Screven has been similar to Swainsboro thus far this season as they look for consistent play with only a 6-5 overall record. Laney is scheduled to play at Tiger Field Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
