The men’s track program at Charleston Southern is one of the top in the nation, and Javon Young, a 2007 graduate of Swainsboro High School, has teamed with Screven County native Cornelius Tyler, Levi Brooks, and Dantwan Spreads to run the fastest time in the 4x200 meter relay this season at CSU. With Tyler running anchor and Young going out first, the foursome registered a 1 minute, 25.47 second sprint.
Young and Tyler, former track foes, still have a healthy competition going, despite being at the same school.
“I don’t want him to beat me,†said Tyler.
“If I can beat him, I will be ‘straight,’†said Young as he returned a verbal jab.
Young was voted the Big South track and field athlete of the year and is currently ranked 14 in the nation in the 200.
He is the son of Joyce and Al Young of Swainsboro and earned a track scholarship to Charleston Southern after his graduation from SHS in 2007, where he ran track and also played football. He is currently an Engineering major at CSU
