For the past few seasons only three teams in region 3 AA have cracked the top two spots in the region standings.  Swainsboro, Jefferson County, and Dublin have been the class of region 3 AA.  Since Dublin joined the region in 2008 (and actually since 2006) no other team has made an appearance in the top half of the region standings and claimed a home playoff game.  This season, with Jefferson County and Swainsboro struggling early, the Laney Wildcats have cemented themselves as a top two region team.

Playoff Contenders:  Dublin, Laney, Bleckley, Dodge, Jefferson County, Swainsboro.

Dublin has without a doubt risen to the top of the region based on their 36-20 victory over Laney this past Friday night.  Behind QB Rob East and RB Cedric O’Neal the Irish are undefeated and looking tough to beat.

Laney is having their best season in recent memory (though frequently a playoff team).  QB Leo Myers is a dual threat as a runner and thrower and has carried the load in what looks like a quality Wildcat team.

Bleckley County is a surprise contender for a playoff spot this season. With only one loss in the region they definitely have control of the steering wheel.  However, their remaining four region games will all be tough and their hold on that coveted spot could change in a hurry.  Laney, Swainsboro, Dodge County, and Jefferson County are still games to be played so the Royals are not sitting comfortable yet.

Jefferson County struggled out of the gate with a 1-3 start but righted the ship with wins against Swainsboro and Dodge County.  They have Southeast Bulloch and East Laurens coming up in preparation for their showdown with Dublin at the end of the month.  The Warriors are looking like the #3 seed and with the potential to slip into the #2 spot should Laney lose twice.

Swainsboro needs to finish the season on a strong run to have a chance.  With Dublin, Bleckley County, and Laney still on the schedule, Swainsboro will have to continue their recent roll to have a shot.   A 3-1 finish should get it done.   But should the Tigers lose two games, they will need Dodge County and Bleckley County to collapse down the stretch.

Dodge County is also in line for a playoff spot.  To date, their last minute victory over Swainsboro has been their lone credible win.  Dodge fought valiantly against Jefferson County, losing 21-19.  But they still have Laney and Dublin on their schedule and a season finale against Screven County will determine their chances
